During the Easter season, our sermon series is “Jesus’ Final Words and Resurrecting Words for Love and Life”. This Sunday, April 21st, the third week of the series, is focused on hope.
HOPE—We sometimes call places, “God forsaken places.” We use this term as we imagine those barren, desolate places where God and hope are seemingly absent. Places of abandonment where it appears God has left the building—the land—a life. Jesus feels this sense of abandonment and forsakenness while on the cross when he cries, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” We know, though, the story does not end there as the resurrection story soon follows. Desolation does not have the final word. Hope rises. Hope comes for all of us.
Reflect on your own personal significant stories of hope…
Think of a time when you or someone else you know was in a place of desolation and abandonment. Why was there a feeling of aloneness and abandonment by God? How did you/the person get through this time? When did hope arrive? How did new life emerge? Pray to God raise hope out of those desolate places in your life and the world. Pray to be part of the movement.
Share a story of God’s hope rising on our Facebook site, or if you would like to share privately, email Pastor Kathy at umcpastorkathleen@yahoo.com with your story.
